White & Case

White & Case is a US-based international law firm established in New York in 1901. It has a total of 38 offices in 25 countries and its lawyers number to more than 2,300. The firm’s clients are a mix of public and privately managed commercial businesses and financial institutions. White & Case also represents governments and state-owned entities. It provides counsel and representation in basically every area of law.

From a meager contribution of $250 each, Wall Street lawyers Justin DuPratt White and George B. Case formed White & Case based on their vision of what a law firm should be. Today, the firm has become one of the largest in the world with its 2006 global revenue estimated at $1.185 billion. White & Case is also considered as one of the first American law firms to truly build a global presence.

White & Case’s foundation is driven by its international practice. It has carried out transactions in almost every part of the world and its global commitment is characterized by its highly skilled domestic lawyers. The firm’s legal services are shaped not only by its depth and scope but more so by the strength of experience its lawyers bring especially in dealing with multi-jurisdictional issues.

One of the firm’s strong points is its capacity to listen to its clients. This makes the firm’s lawyers fully understand their clients’ needs and businesses before they respond to any situation.

The firm’s lawyers are adept at handling even the most complicated projects. Some of White & Case’s practice areas include antitrust, bank advisory, capital markets, corporate defense and special litigation, international trade, Islamic finance, public international law, and trade and commodity finance.

White & Case represents some of the world’s most successful and prominent companies, most of which belong to the Global Fortune 500 and Fortune 500.

The firm values diversity and employs people from various backgrounds: 85 different nationalities and employees who speak over 60 languages. A Diversity Committee works with various groups and departments like the Firm’s Women’s Initiative, Women’s Network, and Employment Committee in order to come up with innovative diversity projects and activities.

White & Case supports the pro bono movement by encouraging its lawyers to get involved in various pro bono activities like volunteer work and outreach programs dedicated to charitable causes, education, human rights, the environment, and healthcare.

The firm is the recipient of several awards and recognitions, the most recent of which is the US Congress’ Corporate Commitment to America’s Youth Award for 2008.

Hugh Verrier, who used to head White & Case’s Moscow office, is the current chairman of the firm.
