Gloria Allred
Gloria Rachel Allred, born on July 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, is a renowned American attorney. After finishing high school, she proceeded to the University of Pennsylvania, where she met and married her first husband. When she was only 20 years old, she gave birth to daughter Lisa. Allred and her husband divorced shortly after their daughter’s birth.
After the divorce, Gloria Allred lived with her parents and pursued her studies. She graduated with honors and achieved a bachelor’s degree in English in 1963. She took on various kinds of jobs available before she decided to be a teacher. Following her work at Benjamin Franklin High School, she started studying and later earned her Master’s degree from New York University. During her studies at NYU, she became fascinated with the civil rights movement, which was beginning to strengthen at that time. In 1966, after she achieved her Master’s degree, Allred went back to Philadelphia to work as a high school teacher in an academic institution where there were a lot of African-Americans who enrolled.
By 1968, Gloria Allred relocated to Los Angeles, California. There, she met and married her second husband, William Allred. However, after 21 years, she and William divorced. Nonetheless, Allred continued her studies and entered Loyola Law School in LA. In 1975, she was admitted to the California State Bar.
Gloria Allred handled a number of clients and cases that were noticed by the media. She once represented Paula Jones in the sexual harassment case against former United States President Bill Clinton. She represented Nicole Brown Simpson’s family during the O.J. Simpson murder case. She also represented Henry Trappler, a photographer, in a filed law suit against Tommy Lee, drummer of famous LA-based rock group Motley Crue. Gloria Allred has also commented on the Michael Jackson case.
Gloria Allred also made a cameo appearance in the film Rat Race. She likewise appeared in Dr. Phil’s show with “octomom” Nadya Suleman. She was further portrayed and parodied in cartoon shows like The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy.
