Harvey Miller

Born on March 1, 1933 in New York City, Harvey R. Miller is a prominent American lawyer who is considered as the world’s leading bankruptcy lawyer. Harvey Miller earned his law degree from Columbia University in 1959 and he is currently a partner in the New York City-based international law firm, Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP. He has been a member of the firm’s management committee for more than 25 years and was also responsible for the creation and development of the company’s Business Finance & Restructuring Department, which focuses on the restructuring of troubled businesses and corporations. Harvey Miller worked on a major reorganization of Safety Kleen Services Inc. and has also handled the bankruptcy and restructuring of a number of companies such as the subprime lender, United Cos. Financial Corp.; the supermarket chain, Bruno’s Inc.; the coal mine operation AEI Resources Inc.; and the athletic shoe and sportswear retailer, Just for Feet. Moreover, Harvey Miller was the attorney in the Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, which was considered as the largest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history, with the global financial services firm holding over $600 billion in assets.

Filling up his list of credentials, Harvey Miller served as the managing director and ice chairman of the boutique investment bank, Greenhill & Co. from 2002 to 2007. He is also an adjunct Professor of Law in the New York University Law School since 1976 to the present; and a lecturer in the Columbia University School of Law from 2000 to present. Harvey Miller is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Bankruptcy; a trustee of the Committee on Economic Development; and a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference.
