Jamie Gorelick
American lawyer Jamie Gorelick was born on May 6, 1950. She is most well known for being President Bill Clinton’s Deputy Attorney General of the United States. Jamie Gorelick also served as commissioner for the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, the committee tasked to conduct an investigation on the events that led to the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack.
Jamie Gorelick graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1972 and cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1975. Prior to serving the Clinton Administration,Jamie Gorelick was with a private law firm in Washington, D.C. where she worked as a litigator until 1993. In between her legal tasks, Jamie Gorelick was positioned in public service when she became the U.S. Secretary of Energy’s assistant from 1979 to 1980.
When Jamie Gorelick took on the 2nd highest position in the Department of Justice, her career took on a new path. After representing various individuals and corporations in the course of her career as one of Washington’s best litigators, Jamie Gorelick turned her focus on structuring the Department of Justice’s role in the consolidation of the defense industry during the 1990s. She also oversaw the department’s (and the U.S. Attorneys offices’) litigation and law enforcement divisions.
Aside from her responsibilities with the 9/11 commission, Jamie Gorelick has worked on a number of other government boards, commissions, and departments such as the Task Force on the Audit, Inspection and Investigation Components of the Department of Defense and as Assistant to the Secretary and Counselor to the Deputy Secretary of Energy.
Jamie Gorelick was the Vice Chairmanship of Fannie Mae, or the Federal National Mortgage Association from 1997 to 2003. In February 2006, Jamie Gorelick became an official member of Duke University’s defense team in relation to the Lacrosse Scandal. Jamie Gorelick is a Board Director of United Technologies Corporation. After serving the Clinton Administration, Jamie Gorelick moved back to the legal turf.
