Mark Geragos

Born on October 5, 1957, in Los Angeles, California, Mark Geragos is a high-profile Armenian-American criminal defense lawyer who graduated from Loyola Law School in 1982. Mark Geragos currently serves as the managing partner of The Law Offices of Geragos and Geragos in Los Angeles. Mark Geragos has won numerous awards including the “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 1999 given by the Los Angeles Criminal Courts Bar Association; Jerry Geisler Memorial Award for Trial Skills, Judgment, and Dedication in 1999; “Humanitarian of the Year” in 2001 awarded by the Mexican American Grocers Association; “Professional of the Year” in 2004 given by the Armenian Professional Society; “Consumer Attorney of the Year” in 2005 by the Consumer Attorneys of California; and “Attorney of the Year” in 2006 by the California Lawyer magazine.

Mark Geragos has worked hard to establish his name in the legal scene, having represented personalities such as Michael Jackson (in the early stages of his molestation case), Gary Condit, Winona Ryder, Scott Peterson, and Susan McDougal.

Mark Geragos initially gained national attention for his victorious representation of Susan McDougal, who got involved in the Whitewater scandal and who is the previous business partner of former President Bill Clinton. McDougal was acquitted from the embezzlement charges against her.

In December 2001, actress Winona Ryder was arrested on charges of shoplifting $5,500 worth of designer clothes and accessories at the Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Beverly Hills, California. Mark Geragos represented the actress during her trial in 2002.

Mark Geragos was also one of the lead lawyers in the class action lawsuits against New York Life Insurance and AXA for insurance policies of more than 1.5 million Armenians, issued during the time of the Armenian Genocide. Both cases were settled in 2004 and 2005 for over $37.5 million.

Mark Gregaros sometimes appears as guest and legal commentator on several television shows like the Today show, Good Morning America, 60 Minutes, and On the Record. He has also had numerous guest appearances in Larry King Live.
