Mary F. Schiavo
A stellar career in practicing law and a resumé that is stacked with a lot of very impressive accomplishments, Mary Schiavo has made her life all about practicing law excellently for the good of the public. Through the years, she has sought corporations, chased institutions and confronted the government itself so that they may be accountable and responsible in meeting their obligations to protect the safety and security of every travelling individual.
One of the brightest experts in transportation litigation, Mary Schiavo has represented victims and their families against US transportation companies (airline, automotive, commercial trucking, and motor coach and rail industries) who are persistently negligent of their responsibilities to their passengers.
Working for Motley Rice Law Firms, Mary Schiavo heads the firm’s aviation team and has represented numerous victims of major US airline crashes. She has also represented pilots and passengers on private or charter plane accidents. Her track record in the complex world of aviation litigation includes more than 50 cases of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
Aside from this, Mary Schiavo also works for the firm’s securities department aimed at obtaining accountability from corporations and wrongdoers who dare dodge their fiduciary duties. In this field, her experience of more than a decade serves her well especially when handling cases that tackle corporate audit and governance. In addition to this, Mary Schiavo has also served as one of the board members of an NYSE-listed corporation and a Canadian-based corporation.
Mary Schiavo has also held various positions under three administrations, including her appointment as Inspector General for the US Department of Transportation from 1990 to 1996. Under her leadership, the DOT investigated various cases with regards to air safety, crimes and disasters. She is also a strong advocate against the use of bogus aircraft parts worldwide, and for her efforts she received the Smithsonian Institution’s Aviation Laurel Award in 1992 and 1995. She was also inducted to the Aviation Laurel Hall of Fame in 1997.
Mary Schiavo is a member of the American Association for Justice and the American Bar Association, where she was assigned to the House of Delegates. For this, she became the First Female Assembly Delegate and served in the House from 1986-1989.
