Michael P. Koskoff

Michael P. Koskoff is a medical malpractice lawyer highlighted by New York Magazine as one of its lawyers of the year for 2009. Working for the Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder law firm, Michael Koskoff fervently believes that the law and the practice of law can lead to a dramatic change in many people’s lives. Being born into a legal family, Michael Koskoff was exposed at a young age to the lawyer’s life.

The son of Theodore I. Koskoff, who founded the Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder law firm and former president of the American Association for Justice, Michael Koskoff revealed that it was his father’s influence on him that drove him to pursue a career in law. He also cites the New Haven Black Panther trials in the 70s, where he worked side-by-side with his father Theodore, as one of the trials that made him the lawyer that he is today.

“My first motivation to become an attorney was definitely my father. The second motivation was the belief that using the law could affect social change,” Michael Koskoff comments. Today, he works closely with his son Joshua, who is also an established lawyer, in running their law firm.

Though originally majoring in acting at the American Shakespeare Academy, Michael Koskoff pursued law and has been honing his profession for more than 40 years. Aside from the New Haven case, another notable case for this accomplished lawyer is the Yale Medical School trials where the jury sided with him and found that it was the University who was to be held responsible for the HIV infection of one of their interns.

Last 2009, Michael Koskoff was elected vice president of the Inner Circle Advocates. Among all the members of the organization, he was the only one from Connecticut.

Michael Koskoff also attributes his success to the excellent team of lawyers at his law firm.
